Episode 50 - Classic, I Say Classic Cartoons
Saturday Mar 05, 2022
Saturday Mar 05, 2022
Oh, it's our 50th anniversary! And we're going to celebrate the milestone in style by watching some cartoons, believe it or not. We'll watch Foghorn Leghorn undermine the protection of baby chickens just to mess with his guard dog. We'll watch Little Audrey bring life to gingerbread, and then oversee her creation's wedding. We'll watch Droopy find a way to take Dixieland music all the way to the Hollywood Bowl. And we'll watch Grampy throw a party as only Grampy can. Plus, Micah considers the end of Arthur, Street Fighters in Magic: the Gathering, and video game adaptations of the hit film Kirikou and the Sorceress, while Matsy doubles down on his controversial Cuphead stance and watches the Laughing Salesman ruin people's souls. 50 episodes! Fortunately, I keep my podcasts numbered for just such an emergency.
Cartoons in this episode:
"Plop Goes the Weasel"
"Tarts and Flowers"
"Dixieland Droopy"
"Betty Boop and Grampy"

Episode 49 - Micah’s Choice

Saturday Feb 26, 2022
Now it's Micah's turn to make us go into a French animated movie blind, and he's selected Kirikou and the Sorceress! Let's all watch an African baby with super speed use various borrowed knives to thwart the plans of a possibly evil woman and her fetishes. Sound good? Also, Matsy tells us how The Cuphead Show compares to the cartoons of the 1930's, and how South Park's pandemic ended up, while Micah discusses My Dress-Up Darling and the phenomenon of the gyaru, and implores us further to check out Ranking of Kings. This podcast is tiny, but it is mighty!

Episode 48 - Matsy’s Choice

Matsy had a movie he wanted to watch, and so here we are. Experiencing Europe's favorite comic strip hero in an animated adventure: The Twelve Tasks of Asterix! Watch in amazement as invincible Gaul heroes from 50 BC try to prove that they are gods by overcoming the challenges set forth by Julius Caesar. There might not be much tension, but there promises to be hilarity! Plus, Micah is disappointed by the Rescue Rangers movie trailer and the latest from Mamoru Hosoda, while Matsy is disappointed by Part 4 of Disenchantment and the first few minutes of Hit-Monkey. Real mixed bag this week!

All you really need this Valentine's Day is a good podcast. Like this one! We're going to watch Alvin and Britany try to get with each other while dealing with the inexplicably mysterious Captain Chipmunk as if a seventh anthropomorphic chipmunk singing star has just miraculously appeared in town I mean come on. And then we'll watch Smurfette deal with 99 problems, where lovesick smurfs are all of them. Actually I guess being hypnotized by Gargamel would be her 100th problem. Plus, Matsy falls in love with a video game genie, prepares to dive into a fourth round of Disenchantment, and rages about the future of Futurama, while Micah finally addresses Hit-Monkey, listens to The Midnight Gospel, and tells us about the anime he's been watching with his boo. Do people still use that word? Boo?
Cartoons in this episode:
"I <3 The Chipmunks Valentine Special"
The Smurfs, "Romeo and Smurfette"

Episode 46 - Three Good Toons and Another One
Saturday Feb 05, 2022
Saturday Feb 05, 2022
The name says it all. We watch a Donald Duck cartoon to see how differently Donald and Daffy view piggy bank robberies. We watch another one of those mild, heartwarming Tom and Jerry cartoons to help soothe Matsy's fears of cat/mouse violence. And we watch Matsy's very favorite cartoon, featuring three jerks - er, brothers - rescuing their one fiance from a coward, bully, cad and thief. And then, to dirty our palates, we watch an offensively stereotypical Japanese beetle outwit a poor man's Road Runner. Plus, we check on how M&M's have been revamped for the 20's, weigh shocking new evidence in the origin of Pete's species, ponder Autobot basketball skills, fail to watch Hit-Monkey or The Cuphead Show, and look at what's next for the makers of Shovel Knight. We are numba one brack belt podcast champion!
Cartoons in this episode:
"Donald's Crime"
"Of Feline Bondage"
"The Dover Boys at Pimento University or The Rivals of Roquefort Hall"
"Hiss and Hers"

Episode 45 - Adulting
Saturday Jan 29, 2022
Saturday Jan 29, 2022
Being an adult is hard, so let's watch cartoons! First we'll check out Rilakkuma and Kaoru, in which Japanese wallet mascots and their single lady caretaker learn to make pancakes, make friends, and not worry too much about being mature or kidnapped. Then, Police Academy will teach us how to look after babies, that transistors are incredibly versatile electronic components, and that Police Academy sucks, while reminding us of which 80's Canadian voice actors voice which dinosaurs. Plus, Micah views Netflix's latest stop-motion thing The House, and old Transformers, while Matsy digs up new sponsorships. Hooray for Animation Celery!
Cartoons in this episode:
Rilakkuma and Kaoru, "Cherry Blossom" and "Kidnapped"
Police Academy: The Series, "Nine Cops and a Baby"

Episode 44 - Forget It
Saturday Jan 22, 2022
Saturday Jan 22, 2022
Our theme this week is amnesia, I think. And we honor it by looking first at a weird, weird anime called Kaiba that is weird, and features the adventures of a guy with a hole in his chest and no memories in a world where memories and bodies are commoditized. And then by watching an episode of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe in which He-Man's memory is erased. That's way easier to understand. Plus, Micah talks about David Letterman(?) and the animated adaptation of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, while Matsy watches the internet-inspired Smiling Friends and appreciates one specific character. Did we mention that Kaiba is weird?
Cartoons in this episode:
Kaiba, "The Name is Warp"
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, "Quest for He-Man"

Episode 43 - Tex and Chuck
Saturday Jan 15, 2022
Saturday Jan 15, 2022
We didn't have a plan in mind, but somehow we ended up giving each other cartoons directed by Tex Avery and Chuck Jones. That sounds like a theme! For the Tex part of our program, we'll watch the great baritone Poochini get harassed by Mysto the magician as he tries to sing an opera song, and we'll see what people in 1949 thought their house would be like in 2050, when humanity has finally figured out how to deal with the mother-in-law. Then we shift to the Chuck part of the show, where Bugs Bunny tangles with knights, dragons and sorcerers, and where a depressed Martian figures that 1960's Earth must be the happiest place in the universe, if only it wasn't beset by monsters. Plus, Matsy will eulogize Squidbillies, and Micah will review numerous movies. And as a special bonus, we look at the climax of Hilda, namely the movie Hilda and the Mountain King. Put on your headphones and listen in. Just be aware that the headphones might be a noose if you're anyone's mother-in law.
Cartoons in this episode:
"Magical Maestro"
"Knight-mare Hare"
"The House of Tomorrow"
"Martian Through Georgia"

Episode 42 - Desert Kings and Beauty Queens
Saturday Jan 08, 2022
Saturday Jan 08, 2022
This week, to help us cope with the brutal cold, we're looking at cartoons with hot times! Like the episode of Futurama in which Fry stumbles onto the throne of a desert planet by being thirsty. Or the episode of Pokemon where everyone is thirsty for *cough*-year-old girls and men with impressive breasts. Plus, Micah revisits our friend Spartakus and the fate of the sun beneath the sea, and prepares for another attack on titan, while Matsy searches for ancient claymation and didn't watch enough Hilda, apparently. No orphanages in this one, but there is a Grampy cameo!
Cartoons in this episode:
Futurama, "My Three Suns"
Pokemon, "Beauty and the Beach"
