Episode 10 - Animation Celery Babies

Gather 'round, children, as we look at cartoons aimed at an even younger audience than the ones we normally look at! We'll watch some birds learn about eggs and slides, fog and mud in Peep and the Big Wide World. And we'll watch a young Swiss girl navigate a big wide world in which no one wants anything to do with her in 2015's version of Heidi. And for the more mature cartoon-watching palate, Micah teaches us what the worst cartoon character names are and whether that new M.O.D.O.K. is anything, while Matsy learns about blood in all its forms in Cells at Work! We're very educational.

Episode 9 - Good Idea, Bad Idea

It's the best of times and the blurst of times here on Animation Celery, as we look at the peaks and troughs of Gummi Bears and Invader Zim. Gruffi and Calla bond over machines and Sunni and Toadie bond over their desire for respect, while Zim bonds with a hideous new girl and her meat. Meanwhile, Sir Tuxford, Cavin, Toadie, Igthorne, Gruffi, Cubbi, Tummi, two nameless guards and a goose try to bond a coherent plot out of disparate parts, while Dib tries to un-bind Gaz from the taste of pig. We'll also take a quick look at what the Animaniacs were up to in 2020, and we'll let Micah expound on Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers. Bounce here, there and everywhere, but don't bounce from this podcast!

Episode 8 - The Good Episode

We didn't plan for this episode to feature four of the best cartoons we've watched to date; it just turned out that way! First, we'll see if Popeye can lick 41 foes with nothing but a can of spinach. Then we'll examine the mass hysteria that really results from dogs and cats living together. And finally, having earned our rest, we'll take in a game of baseball featuring myriad Goofies. Plus, Micah revisits JoJo's adventures (which are increasingly bizarre) and Twelve Forever's villainous villainess, and Matsy looks at Disney's current girls-out-of-water in Amphibia and The Owl House, with a side trip into the language of Adventure Time. Stay to the end to hear Micah unleash a white-hot take!

Episode 7 - Wolf Mother

It's mother's day, and we're celebrating by watching our very first full-length feature: Mamoru Hosoda's anime masterpiece, Wolf Children! We'll also talk about less motherly things, like the current state of the Pokémon cartoon, willful neglect of Australian child labor laws with The Strange Chores, celebrity dog-girl Korone's mastery of V-tube humor, and the edgelord alter-egos in Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! and Twelve Forever that the boys wish they could forget and the girls can't let go of. There's no better way to appreciate your mother than by listening to two childless men talk about cartoons!

Episode 6 - Altogether Ook-ooky

What did animators in the 70's do when the fat cats in Hollywood tasked them with adapting a popular franchise into a cartoon and gave them a budget of approximately one cheese sandwich to do it? Let's find out, as we look at cartoon versions of the Addams Family and Planet of the Apes! Plus, a quick look at the collected works of Mike Judge, and an investigation into where magic schoolbuses come from. Apparently Rick Springfield had something to do with it.

Episode 5 - Little Shop of Horses

This week, we see what 90's cartoons can teach us! If a train leaves Deadwood going west at 11:55 AM, and a gang of men on horseback leaves Deadwood going west at 11:56 AM, who will reach Rattlesnake Ravine first? And why do the hottest girls only like nerds? Plus, Matsy shares his opinion of Rick & Morty, while Micah shares his dreams. Subscribe to our podcast before I put you in check!

Episode 4 - Whose Dot Is It Anyway?

Episode 3 - Bizarre Teens

Being a teenager is hard. Like you might have a being of pure malevolence for an adopted brother, so you have to spend years sculpting your body into a ridiculous slab of muscle to counter his sadistic torments. Or you might be a robot tasked with defending the world from various villainous invaders, only to find that no one appreciates your efforts. I know the teenagers I went to school with pretty much fit into those two camps. *Roundabout plays*

Episode 2 - Brain and Brawn

Let me tell you something, brother! We're poring over vital intel about Inspector Gadget that was withheld from the Canadian people. Like what kind of idiot he associates with, and what kind of deathtrap he lives in. Then we consider alternate professions for the down-on-his-luck wrestler. Housecleaner? Pastry chef? Model? Actually, there was a wrestling model, wasn't there? Can't believe I forgot about that until just now.
